Η
εγκατάσταση Islands grow πραγματεύεται την συνθήκη
διαρκούς διαμόρφωσης στην οποία βρίσκεται κάθε είδους γεωλογικός σχηματισμός σε
κλίμακα και χρόνους πολύ διαφορετικούς από τους ανθρώπινους.
Το έργο
αποτελείται από μία σειρά σχεδίων γαζωμένων σε ύφασμα σε συνομιλία με ένα
σύνολο από κατασκευασμένους βράχους. Πρόκειται για σχέδια τοπίων σε εξέλιξη,
μεταξύ αφηρημένων σχημάτων, ισομετρικών πλεγμάτων και συγκεκριμένων
λεπτομερειών από το ανάγλυφο της Ίου και τις επεμβάσεις σε αυτό.
Καθώς
τα «βράχια» και τα θραύσματά τους στο χώρο αναπαριστούν γεωλογικούς όγκους, όχι
μόνο μέσω της φόρμας και της υλικότητάς τους, αλλά και μέσα από τα ειδικά
χαρακτηριστικά του βάρους, της σύνθεσης και της διαδικασίας κατασκευής τους,
έτσι και οι γραμμές του πλέγματος και οι πτυχώσεις στο ύφασμα διατηρούν κάτι
από τις μηχανικές διαδικασίες της συνεχούς κίνησης και διαμόρφωσης των τόπων.
Σε
συνέχεια μιας μακροχρόνιας έρευνας γύρω από το τοπίο και το έδαφος σαν
κατηγορίες που διαφεύγουν του σαφούς ορισμού και της οριοθέτησης, το Islands grow
προτείνει μια συνεχή διακύμανση μεταξύ μαλακών και σκληρών στοιχείων, ανάδυσης
και κατακερματισμού, περιχαράκωσης και διαπερατότητας.
Islands grow is about the state of continuous alteration to which all land features are subject, following time scales incomparable to human activity.
The installation brings together a series of drawings sewn on fabric and an arrangement of artificial rocks and boulders. Landscapes in constant transformation, they draw their attributes from isometric grids, abstract shapes and details of the island of Ios and the effect of human intervention on it.
In the same manner that the "rocks" and their fragments represent geological volumes, not only through their form and materiality, but also through their specific characteristics of weight, composition and manufacturing process, so do the grid lines and the folds in the fabric preserve something of the mechanical processes of the constant movement and the shaping of places.
Following a long-standing research on the landscape and the ground as categories that elude concrete definition or demarcation, Islands grow suggests instead a continuous fluctuation between soft and hard elements, emergence and fragmentation, delimitation and permeability.
